Shared Lives is where you can live with a carer (and their family) in their home in your local community.
They will like the same kind of things as you and enjoy doing activities with you.
You can stay for a short while or you can stay for a long time, whatever you need. For example, you may visit them regularly or you may move in with them.
West Glamorgan Shared Lives finds carers for people in need in Neath Port Talbot or Swansea.
Is Shared Lives for me?
Lots of different people use Shared Lives.
You may need help to be independent and make your own choices.
You may want to be part of a family, make new friends and be part of the local community.
What is life like with a Shared Lives carer?
You will get a safe and friendly home with your own bedroom.
Your family and friends will always be able to visit you.
Your food will be provided.
You will need your own money to buy toiletries, clothes and other personal items.
Your carer will support and help you with managing your money if you need it.
They will also help you to learn new skills like cooking and ironing and to do more things on your own.
How do I choose a Shared Lives carer?
You can ask your social worker to refer you or you can contact us directly (or ask a family member or friend to on your behalf).
We will look for a carer that we think you will get on with. Your family can also help you choose.
You can visit the carer at their home and even stay overnight to see if you like it.
If you like it, we will make all the arrangements for you to go ahead with your chosen carer.
